Luke describes more unique incidents involving women’s encounters with Christ than any of the
other gospels. He shows so clearly how Jesus
valued women, reached out to women, used women
to convey life-changing messages, and understood women’s deepest longings. Just as Christ chose to be a vital part of women’s lives when He walked on earth, He calls each of us to enjoy that same real-life intimacy with Him today.
It all begins by slowing down, choosing to experience refreshing encounters with Christ in the “secret garden” of His presence. Spending time alone with Him — with eyes, mind and heart wide open — will enrich our personal lives, equip us to walk in the light of His presence throughout each day, and provide us with riches to share with one another.
A study guide by Dee Brestin will direct us through the entire gospel of Luke. But our journey will be marked by pauses at key “oasis stops” to see how a variety of women encountered Christ in their everyday circumstances. As we do, we’ll see that our ancient sisters truly weren’t that different from us. And the abundant, thriving life Jesus offered to them is still available to each one of us today.
